Abstract: The cardiomyopathies encompass a diverse group of disorders in which the predominant feature is myocardial dysfunction. The diagnosis can often be made from the history, physical examination, and a limited number of laboratory tests. But when cardiomyopathy has been discovered, further investigations into its category and its possible etiologies are warranted, since prognosis and therapy vary markedly among the different types.
